आगरा का नाम बदलने का शोर फिर शुरू
इलाहाबाद और फैजाबाद का नाम बदलने के बाद अब उ प्र सरकार ताज नगरी आगरा का नाम बदलने की योजना पर गम्भीरता से विचार कर रही है। शासन ने इसके लिए आगरा विश्वविद्यालय से सुझाव व साक्ष्य मांगे हैं। विश्वविद्यालय के इतिहास विभाग से किसी ऐतिहासिक नाम भेजने का सुझाव मांगा गया है, साथ ही इस संबंध में इतिहास विभाग से साक्ष्य भी मांगे गए हैं।
ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा है कि उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार अब आगरा जिले का नाम बदलकर अग्रवन कर सकती है। इतिहास के जानकारों के मुताबिक, आगरा का नाम अग्रवन हुआ करता था। शासन अब ये साक्ष्य तलाशने की कोशिश कर रहा है कि अग्रवन का नाम बदल कर कब और क्यों किया गया। उ. प्र. सरकार ने पहले ही इलाहाबाद नाम बदलकर प्रयागराज व और फ़ैजाबाद का अयोध्या कर दिया है। इसके अलावा मुगलसराय स्टेशन का नाम पंडित दीनदयाल उपध्याय जंक्शन किया जा चुका है। इतना ही नहीं चंदौली जिले का नाम बदलने की रिपोर्ट शासन को भेजी जा चुकी है, पर अभी कोई फैसला नहीं हुआ है।
आगरा उत्तर से बीजेपी विधायक जगन प्रसाद गर्ग ने आगरा का नाम बदल कर अग्रवन करने का अभियान चलाया था। उन्होंने सीएम योगी को लिखे पत्र में कहा था कि “आगरा में बहुत सारे वन (जंगल) और अग्रवाल (महाराजा अग्रसेन के अनुयायी) हैं इसलिए शहर का नाम बदलकर ‘अग्रवन’ किया जाना चाहिए। इस क्षेत्र को शुरुआत में अग्रवन के नाम से जाना जाता था और महाभारत में इसका उल्लेख भी मिलता है। लेकिन समय के साथ, शहर को अकबरबाद के रूप में नामित किया गया और बाद में यह ‘आगरा’ बन गया, जिसका कोई विशेष अर्थ नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा था कि वैश्य समुदाय जो महाराजा अग्रसेन के अनुयायी है उनकी आगरा में जनसँख्या करीब 10 लाख है। उन्होंने कहा कि इसलिए इस शहर का नाम दोबारा से ‘अग्रवन’ किया जाना चाहिए।”
विधायक जगन प्रसाद गर्ग इस विषय पर मुख्यमंत्री से भेंट करके आगरा का नाम अग्रवन करने की मांग करना चाहते थे। परंतु उनके असामयिक निधन से उनका यह से उनका यह सपना अधूरा रह गया।नगर के अन्य विधायकों व सांसदों ने विधायक जगन प्रसाद गर्ग की इस योजना का समर्थन करना तो दूर, कोई महत्व भी नहीं दिया। नगर के प्रबुद्ध जनों का मत भी इस बारे में विभाजित है। कुछ लोग अग्रवन नाम के पक्ष में हैं तो कुछ का कहना है कि आगरा और आगरा के ताजमहल को ऐतिहासिक रूप से आगरा के नाम से ही जाना जाता है, अतः मैं परिवर्तन की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। विधायक जगन गर्ग के प्रस्ताव पर मेयर नवीन जैन ने जरूर यह कहा था कि नगर निगम से इस संबंध में आवश्यक प्रस्ताव पास करा के शासन को भेजेंगे। पर वह बात आगे नहीं बढ़ी। अब चूंकि यह प्रस्ताव सरकार की ओर से आया है अतः संभव है कि कोई अंतिम निर्णय जल्दी ही हो जाए।

BJP MLA from Agra North, Jagan Prasad Garg, campaigned to change the name of Agra to Agrawan. He had written in a letter to CM Yogi that “Agra has a lot of forests (jungle) and agarwal (followers of Maharaja Agrasen) so the city should be renamed as ‘Agrawan’. This region was initially known as Agrawan and is also mentioned in the Mahabharata. But over time, the city was named as Akbarabad and later became ‘Agra’, which has no special meaning. He had said that the Vaishya community which is a follower of Maharaja Agrasen has about 10 lakh population in Agra. He said that hence the name of this city should be renamed ‘Agrawan’. “
MLA Jagan Prasad Garg wanted to meet the Chief Minister on this subject and demand that Agra’s name be given to Agrawan. But this dream of his untimely demise left him with this dream unfulfilled. Other MLAs and MPs from the city did not even give any importance, far from supporting the plan of MLA Jagan Prasad Garg. The opinion of the enlightened people of the city is also divided about this. Some people are in favor of the name Agrawan and some say that the Taj Mahal in Agra and Agra are historically known as Agra, so there is no need for change. On the proposal of MLA Jagan Garg, Mayor Naveen Jain had definitely said that he would send the necessary proposals in this regard to the government by passing the Municipal Corporation. But that matter did not go ahead. Now that this proposal has come from the government, it is possible that a final decision is made soon.
